Syllabus & Recommended Books for HPAS/HAS - Himachal Pradesh General Studies

On request of our blog readers, we are compiling a list of books for Himachal Pradesh Administrative Services Exam which is conducted by Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission for the various post i.e. Sub Divisional Magistrate, Sub Divisional Police Officer, Block Development Officer, Tehsildar et al.

First of all, we would like to mention the syllabus of Himachal Pradesh Administrative Service Exam (Preliminary) which consists of two papers, one is of General Studies and another one is of General Aptitude Test. Both the papers will be of 200 marks each containing 100 questions of multiple choice objective type and time duration will be of 2 hours. The syllabus has been adopted as per the UPSC pattern and also includes questions on Himachal Pradesh and is given as under:-

Prelims Syllabus

Paper I (General Studies)

This paper shall be of 200 marks and there shall be 100 objective type questions from the syllabus of History, Political Science, Geography, art & culture and socio economic developments of Himachal Pradesh. There shall be current events of National and International Importance, history of India and Indian national movement. Indian and World geography physical, social, economic geography of India and the world. Indian polity and governance- Constitution, political system, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights issues et al. Economics and social development – sustainable development poverty, inclusion, demographics, social sector initiatives et al. General issues on environment ecology, bio-diversity, climate change and General Science.

Paper II (Aptitude test)

This paper shall be of 200 marks and there shall be 100 objective type questions from the Comprenhsion, Interpersonal skills including communication skills, Logical reasoning and analytical ability, Decision making and problem solving, General Mental ability, Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude et al. (Class X level), Data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency et al. - Class X level). English language comprehension skills (Class X level).
